Storm Clouds are rising. What should we do about it?

Storm clouds are rising; What to do about them

Purpose: to help us prepare for the upheavals that are coming.

Why pay attention to our times?

1 Chron 12:32men of Issachar, who understood the times and knew what Israel should do

Luke 19:41-44As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace — but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”

Luke 13:34-35″O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! 35Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’ ”

Luke 12:54-56He said to the crowd: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does. 55And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is. 56Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?

Muslims wait for Maudi—a final Caliph

Maudi to rule over the world for seven years

Both are associated with the End Times and the Judgment.

Both are said to possess political, military and religious power, and head up a one-world religion.

The Mahdi will force all non-Muslim people to convert to Islam.

Both to establish Jerusalem as their capital, from which he will rule the Earth.

Habakkuk complained

Hab 1:5-7″Look at the nations and watch — and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told. 6 I am raising up the Babylonians, that ruthless and impetuous people, who sweep across the whole earth to seize dwelling places not their own. 7 They are a feared and dreaded people; they are a law to themselves and promote their own honor.

Hab 2:2-4Then the Lord replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. 3 For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay. 4 “See, he is puffed up;

The Battle between good and evil

The Battle of Good and Evil

Purpose: To make us more aware of the spiritual battle today and throughout history and to learn how to prepare ourselves for what may come.

Rev 12:1A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. 2 She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth. 3 Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads. 4 His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child the moment it was born. 5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter. And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne. The woman fled into the desert to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.

Who is the woman clothed with the sun and with the moon under her feet and 12 Stars on her head?

Gen 37:9-10Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. “Listen,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”

10 When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, “What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?”

Sun and moon are signs of God’s promises to preserve Israel (Ps. 89:35-37; Jer. 31:36).

Ps 89:34-37I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered. 35 Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness — and I will not lie to David — 36 that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun; 37 it will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky.”

Jer 31:35-36This is what the Lord says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar — the Lord Almighty is his name: 36 “Only if these decrees vanish from my sight,” declares the Lord, “will the descendants of Israel ever cease to be a nation before me.”

Rev 12 also points to first sin: Cried out in pain: childbirth apart from a man.

Gen 3:14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, “Cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. 15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspringand hers; he will crushyour head, and you will strike his heel.” 16 To the woman he said, “I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children.

Genesis and Revelation tie together

Ongoing battle

To destroy Christ:

1)    Cain’s murder of Abel (Gen. 4:8).
2) The pollution of the offspring of men by “sons of God” (Gen. 6:2-4).
3) Pharaoh’s attempt to kill all the male Hebrews (Ex. 1:16).
4) Haman’s attempt to wipe out the Jews (Est. 3:6).
5) Atheliah Ahaziah’s mother’s attempt to kill the royal heirs of Judah (2Chr. 22:10). One hidden
6) Herod’s slaughter of the babes (Mat. 2:16).
7) The crucifixion of Christ.

Satan’s blinding of non-believers

Our blindness

We must arm ourselves

Living in evil times

Christian persecution worldwide; Coming to America

Eph 6:10-18Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

Our Scripture’s first and last books

In order to get the most out of this video copy and paste the following notes so you can better follow along and so you will have the Scriptures in front of you. It makes a big difference when you can see the Scriptures rather than just listen.

Our Scripture’s First and Last Books

Purpose to help us understand how the first and last book of the Bible complement each other and make our Scriptures complete

Two most neglected and most important books of the Bible

Genesis- beginning. A book of firsts. Creation, life, man, sin, death, religion, marriage, language, nations, government, Chosen people,

Most often quoted book from other Scriptures

165 passages either directly quoted or clearly referred to in the NT

Greatest attack: Gen 1 to 11 over 100 quotations or direct references in NT.

Perfect World until sin

God makes provision to cover our sins

Gen 3:15 “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crushyour head, and you will strike his heel.”

Perfect world restored

Rev 21:1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away,

Tree of life:

Rev 22:1-2Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lambdown the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month.

No more death

Rev 21:4 There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

No more Satan

Rev 20:10And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

Gen: separation from God

Rev 21:3 “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them.

Gen 2:20-24 But for Adamno suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribsand closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the ribhe had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” 24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

Rev 19:7-9 For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. 8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.) 9 Then the angel said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!'”

Chosen people:

Gen 12:1-3The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. 2 “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

Amos 9:14-15I will bring back my exiled people Israel; they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them. They will plant vineyards and drink their wine; they will make gardens and eat their fruit. 15 I will plant Israel in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land I have given them,” says the Lord your God.

Nations: Gen 10 Table of nations

Prophecies regarding many of the nations: Isa 13 to 23

Rev 21:22-26I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. 25 On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. 26 The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it.

Whole Bible fits together

Attack on Genesis:

My experience with day-age theory.

Gen 1:3-5And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning — the first day.

Defenders of the literal interpretation of Scripture Institute of Creation research & Answers in Genesis

Gap theory:

As in day-age theory there is death before Adam.

Made popular by notes in Scofield reference Bible using scripture from many places to fill in their theory

Does not answer problem it purports to answer: uniformity.   No geologist accepts this theory.

Death before Adam for both gap theory and day-age theory

1 Cor 15:22For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

Genesis and Revelation both spiritualized.

1st Adam allegory then so is 2nd Adam

1 Cor 15:45 “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.

Re. 7 144,000 jews

Encyclopedia Judaica:  Various theories, one more farfetched than the other, have been adduced, on the flimsiest of evidence, to identify different peoples with the ten lost tribes. There is hardly a people, from the Japanese to the British, and from the Red Indians to the Afghans, who have not been suggested, and hardly a place, among them Africa, India, China, Persia, Kurdistan, Caucasia, the U.S., and Great Britain.

JWs, worldwide church of God

We are the spiritual seed of Abraham. Distintion between spiritual and physical seed. The Church is nowhere called Israel.

1 Cor 15:21-23For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

Paul makes a distinction

Rom 11:25-29For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And so all Israel will be saved,as it is written: “The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; 27 For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.”28 Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers. 29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. NKJV

Paul’s concern: They would become wise in their own eyes thinking that the distinction of the jews would become non-existant

when the plain sense of Scripture is rejected, a foothold is provided for aberrant teachings

Discuss how to determine whether to take it spiritually or literally

Rev 1:12I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands,

Rev 1:16 In his right hand he held seven stars,

Rev 1:20 The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

When the Scriptures make common sense take not other sense, lest it become non-sense.

By the Blood of Jesus

By the Blood of Jesus

Before clicking the link to watch the video you can copy the notes. This will enable you to follow along better. You will have all the Scripture references I use. I makes a big difference when you can see the notes rather than just follow along:

Purpose: To help us recognize that the message of the cross is important to both believers and non-believers and to understand how the theme of the cross runs throughout the Bible.

One word to summarize the Bible

1st reference Gen 3:15And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring a and hers; he will crushyour head, and you will strike his heel.”

2nd reference: Gen 3:21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.

Gen 4:1 Adamlay with his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, “With the help of the Lord I have brought fortha man.”

3rd reference Gen 4:4-5 The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor.

Heb 11:4By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did.

Abraham asked to sacrifice his son

Gen 22:7 “The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”

Issac: a type of Jesus

Ex 12:4The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats.

Ex 12:21-23Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go at once and select the animals for your families and slaughter the Passover lamb. 22 Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of the blood on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. Not one of you shall go out the door of his house until morning. 23 When the Lord goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.

Pictures the cross: Jesus, the lamb of God

1 Cor 5:7 Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.

Passover: annual celebration

Holy of Holies or most holy place

Lev 16:11 “Aaron shall bring the bull for his own sin offering to make atonement for himself and his household, and he is to slaughter the bull for his own sin offering.

Lev 16:15″He shall then slaughter the goat for the sin offering for the people and take its blood behind the curtain and do with it as he did with the bull’s blood: He shall sprinkle it on the atonement cover and in front of it.

Blood of animals cannot save us.

Heb 10:3-4But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, 4 because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

Discuss the separation with the curtain

Sacrifices showed that they deserved death

Matt 27:50-51And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

We still need the blood to enter

Sin never goes unpunished.

Many think of him as absolute love and neglect the justice of God. This ignores his holiness and justice.

Why is it important after salvation?

Avoids: Legalism (inadequate grace) or license to sin (abused grace)

Treasure the cross, dwell on it

The Holiness of God

The Holiness of God

To get the most out of this message I suggest you print out the following notes so you can better follow along. Then you will have the Scripture passages before you as well as the notes. You will gain more from the Scripture if you actually see it rather than just listen to it. Here is the link for this message.

Purpose: To gain a greater understanding of the magnificence of God and the utter depravity of man so we can more deeply appreciate His sacrifice for us.

What is holiness?

Holiness: Both God’s transcendent majesty and His moral perfection

Isa 40:18To whom, then, will you compare God?

Angels bow before him and call him holy

Isa 6:1In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple.

2 Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”

4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”

6 Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”

And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Even the ground where his presence is, is holy Ex 3:5

John 18:4-6Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, “Who is it you want?”

5“Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied.

“I am he,” Jesus said… 6When Jesus said, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.

Do we limit God. Do we put our own level but slightly higher.

Num 11:21-22But Moses said, “Here I am among six hundred thousand men on foot, and you say, ‘I will give them meat to eat for a whole month!’ 22 Would they have enough if flocks and herds were slaughtered for them? Would they have enough if all the fish in the sea were caught for them?”

Sarah laughed when God said she would have a child the following year. 89 years old

Recognizing God for who He is, is worship

Ps 29:1-2Ascribe to the Lord, O mighty ones, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of hisholiness.

Glory of God is all that is worth living for.

Seeing Jesus for who He is will change us.

1 John 3:2Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

Recognizing the majestic Christ for who He is will make us aware of our own condition

Consider Isaiah,

We don’t recognize our own condition

Isa 64:6 All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;

Ps 139:23-24Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Called to be Holy

Phil 3:10I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death

1 John 4:17Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. NKJV

“Be ye holy; for I am holy” (Lev 11:44; 19:2)

Man was made in the image of God and capable of reflecting the Divine likeness.

He calls man to a holiness resembling His own (Lev 19:2).

Lev 19:2 Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.

Ps 15:1Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live on your holy hill? 2 He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart 3 and has no slander on his tongue, who does his neighbor no wrong and casts no slur on his fellowman, 4 who despises a vile man but honors those who fear the Lord, who keeps his oath even when it hurts, 5 who lends his money without usury and does not accept a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.

Who will Jesus associate with?

Isa 57:15For this is what the high and lofty One says — he who lives forever, whose name is holy:

“I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.

Scriptures to meditate on:

Rom 4:7-8″Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. 8 Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him.”

Rom 8:1 There is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus

Gal 3:13Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us,

Col 1:22But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation—

Ps 103:12as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

Isa 11:11-12In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt, from Cush, from Elam, from Babylonia, from Hamath and from the islands of the sea.

12 He will raise a banner for the nations and gather the exiles of Israel; he will assemble the scattered people of Judah from the four quarters of the earth.

Replacement theology

Jer 31:35-36This is what the Lord says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar — the Lord Almighty is his name:

36 “Only if these decrees vanish from my sight,” declares the Lord, “will the descendants of Israel ever cease to be a nation before me.”

Rom 11:1-2I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew.

What is this promise God made to Israel?

Isa 2:2-3In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. 3 Many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

Does this describe today?

5 With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you — 6 the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, 7 Gebal,Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre. 8 Even Assyria has joined them to lend strength to the descendants of Lot. Selah

9 Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon, 10 who perished at Endor and became like refuse on the ground. 11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, 12 who said, “Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God.” 13 Make them like tumbleweed, O my God, like chaff before the wind. 14 As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze, 15 so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. 16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O Lord.

17 May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace. 18 Let them know that you, whose name is the Lord — that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Can’t be ignored; Scriptural

My experience with learning predestination

The whole Bible teaches predestination and also free will.

How I was benefited by understanding predestination.

Ex 8:14-15They (frogs) were piled into heaps, and the land reeked of them. 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said.

Plague: Boils

Ex 9:12But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart and he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said to Moses.

Ex 9:16But I have raised you upfor this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.

Raised you up or caused you to stand

Pharaoh eventually drowned in the Red sea. Did God do this?

Isa 45:7I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things. (see also Ecc 7:13-14, Lam 3:37-38, Amos 3:6

We don’t like to think of God doing this but what is the alternative?

Ex 12:35-36The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing. 36 The Lord had made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians.

Prov 21:1The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.

Good or bad kings.

Ezra 1:1In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and to put it in writing:

Isa 45:13I will raise up Cyrusin my righteousness: I will make all his ways straight. He will rebuild my city and set my exiles free,

Prophesied over 100 years prior

Isa 45:4 For the sake of Jacob my servant, of Israel my chosen, I summon you by name and bestow on you a title of honor, though you do not acknowledge me.

Neither the Egyptians nor Cyrus intended to obey any revealed word of God

Ezra 1:5Then the family heads of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests and Levites — everyone whose heart God had moved — prepared to go up and build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem.

The people knew it was God that moved in the kings heart.

Ezra 6:22For seven days they celebrated with joy the Feast of Unleavened Bread, because the Lord had filled them with joy by changing the attitude of the king of Assyria, so that he assisted them in the work on the house of God, the God of Israel.

Can we trust God when it appears we are at the mercy of someone else?

God works in every person’s life to bring about his purposes. If he can work in the kings heart then why not ours?

Jesus was not at the mercy of Judas even though it seemed so.

Dan 1:9 Now God had caused the official to show favor and sympathy to Daniel,

Ps 139:13, 16For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.   All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Inmost being: Kidney. God created his personality

This doesn’t negate our responsibility

Must not put God on our own level in attempting to understand His sovereignty

God is never the author of sin although he uses sin for His own purposes. Exp. Joseph

We can make real choices. We are not mindless puppets. So we are held accountable to God for choices

Benefits of trusting: Can better accept our own circumstances Exp. Our boss is not in control of our career

No need for resentment or bitterness.

Ro 8:31 if God is for us who can be against us?

Deut 29:29The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.

To reduce stress, live by God’s agenda.

The Positive Side of Revelation

I hope this third message will help you to gain new depth of trust in your wonderful Lord and Savior. As usual I have produced the notes that you can copy and paste. Then I recommend that you print them out so you can follow along as you watch the video. Here is the link:

The positive side of Revelation

Purpose: to show Biblically that regardless of what happens, God is in control and has a good purpose for allowing it.

Is Revelation just a lot of gloom and doom or is there a good purpose for the tribulation?

Rev 5:1-5Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. 4 I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside.

What is this scroll with seven seals?

Why can’t anyone open it and why does it matter?

Rev 5:9 And they sang a new song: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.

Ps 2:6-8 “I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill.” 7 I will proclaim the decree of the Lord: He said to me, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.

Qualifications to open the seal:

Must have paid the redemption price

Perfect judgment

Ability to rule

Relationship to both God and man

5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

When the seven seals are opened and the judgments in them are complete the earth will be under the dominion of Christ. The seven trumpet Judgments and seven bowl judgments are incorporated into the seal judgments.

Greatest revival:

Rev 7:9-10After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”

Rev 7:13-14Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes — who are they, and where did they come from?” 14 I answered, “Sir, you know.” And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Purpose of Tribulation: To bring as many people as possible to the Lord. Also to bring the world under Christ’s reign.

After the sixth trumpet: 1/3rd of mankind killed by fire, smoke and sulpher

Rev 9:20-21The rest of mankind that were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood — idols that cannot see or hear or walk. 21 Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts.

Rev 14:6-7Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth — to every nation, tribe, language and people. 7 He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

Rev 14:9-10A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand, 10 he, too, will drink of the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. He will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb.

Rev 11:13At that very hour there was a severe earthquake and a tenth of the city collapsed. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the survivors were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.

Answer to prayer:

Rev 8:3-5Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne. 4 The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of the saints, went up before God from the angel’s hand. 5 Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake.

Have you ever prayed for an earthquake? Thy kingdom come?

Our prayers are precious to God.

Everything that happens in the book of Revelation happens under the control of the lamb

He is the one opening the seals.

Rev 6:1-2 I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, “Come!” 2 I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.

2nd seal: Rider given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a large sword.

4th seal: Death and hades were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.

The four living creatures calling forth these horsemen.

Would Jesus bring about these horrors?

Isa 45:7I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things. (see also Ecc 7:13-14, Lam 3:37-38, Amos 3:6

Can we trust that He is always working in our own situation?

Example: difficult co-worker or family member

Rom 8:28-29And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, whohave been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

In the worst of situations

Example: Death of my son

God was working even then. I was still among the called.

Gal 1:15-16But when God, who set me apart from birthand called me by his grace, was pleased 16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not consult any man…

Even in the valley God is good
even in the valley he is faithful and true
he carries his children through
like he said he would
even in the valley God is so good

Leaning on the Power of the Holy Spirit

My hope is that you will gain as much from this second message as I have. It is actually a continuation of the first message but these principles have made a big difference in my life so I wanted to pass them on. As before I am presenting the Scripture passages and notes so you can better follow along. I believe you will get a lot more out of it if you will print them out so you can have them to access as you watch this video:

Purpose: To learn how to overcome sins and live in the power of the Holy Spirit so we can be victorious in our daily lives. Also to determine what our part is and what God’s part is in our Christian walk

First bookend provides the motivation. The more we lean the greater the motivation.

Without the first book end the second will lead to self-righteousness.

Not enough. We also need the power to carry it out.

No strength against our powerful enemy—Satan

2 Tim 2:1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

Be strong: Imperative and passive.

Jerry Bridges: Grace in the new testament is actually much broader—It includes all the blessings God has given us through Christ. These blessing can generally be categorized under two headings: privileges and power.

John McArthur: by means of the grace that is in Christ Jesus

2 Cor 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

2 Cor 12:9 Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

This power can only be experienced through human weakness.

Without Christ we can do nothing (Jn 15:5)

We must look outside ourselves both to Christ’s righteousness and His power.

We could title this message: “leaning on the power of Jesus”

Spirits role essential in our day to day santification

2 Cor 3:18And we, who with unveiled faces all reflectthe Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

No unveiling without the Spirit: don’t see God’s glory; not transformation

So what’s our role?

Renounce confidence in self and rely on HS

Must be enabled; not merely helped.

Must remember that God is not a genie

He allows us to twist in the wind sometimes.

Other times amazes us with a display of strength. But always on His timetable.

Holy Spirit’s work in the believers life:

Ps 127:1Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.

Phil 2:12-13 Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.

Where do we draw the line between what we are to do and what God is to do or is there a line?

We are both responsible and dependent; Both for growth of character and our ministry

2 Tim 2:1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

2 Tim 2:15Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed

Do your best: Be diligent or make every effort.

Col 1:29To this end I labor, struggling with all His energy, which so powerfully works in me.

100% our responsibility; 100% dependent on the HS

The teaching of diligent effort runs throughout Scripture: Mt 26:41; 2 Co 7:1; 1 Co 9:27 &       15:58; 1 Ti 4:7; Heb 12:14; 2 Pe 1:5-7 & 3:14

There are spiritual disciplines that the HS uses.

1.  Daily communion with God or quiet time;

Goal should be to encounter the living God

The gospel

2 Cor 3:18And we, who with unveiled faces all reflectthe Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

It is the gospel that transforms us. See context

We need the gospel. We are still sinners

All of Scripture

We need the moral imperatives

Rom 12:2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.

The spirit renews us through the renewing of the mind.

2.  Prayer

Used to express our dependence on the Lord.

Need to keep in mind the sovereignty of God

There is power in prayer because we acknowledge our dependency on God.

Consider the Pharisee and tax collector in Luke 18

The more prayer the more dependence; the more dependence the more power in prayer

Source: not prayer but HS

  1. Circumstances

Rom 8:28-29And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

All things: The good, bad and ugly

Dependant responsibility is a difficult battle we must work at.

How many times in the last 24 hours have you done anything with conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit?

Phil 3:12-14Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Take every thought captive 2 Co. 10:5

Jerry Bridges: How do we fight for godliness? It starts the same way we fight for humility—by seeing the cross as the overarching message and meaning of life and the universe.
